Description: NAD is juvenile-onset a neurodegenerative disease affecting both the central and peripheral nervous systems. The first symptoms appear approximately at the age of 6 weeks – 3 months in puppies. Affected Papillons show various neurological deficits including gait abnormalities, inability to stand (astasia), paralysis of limbs and so. Typical neurological symptoms such as blindness, strabism, impaired food intake may occur from month 6 onwards. A characteristic pathological manifestation is the swelling of axons the formation of spheroids developed and accumulated along axons throughout the brain and spinal cord.

 

Inheritance: autosomal recessive

 

Mutation: c.1579G>A in PLA2G6 gene (CFA10)

 

Sample: EDTA whole blood (1.0 ml) or 2 buccal brushes. For official purposes, the confirmation of the dog’s identity by Veterinarian is recommended.
