Description:  Neonatal encephalopathy (NEWS – neonatal encephalopathy with seizures) is a hereditary lethal disease affecting the brain of large poodle puppies. Affected puppies are smaller at birth, weaker and many die during the first week of life. If he survives for more than a week, ataxia, tremor, and convulsions develop around 4 to 6 weeks of age. Survival in affected puppies was not observed for more than 7 weeks. The cerebellum of affected puppies is smaller and often contains dysplastic foci that are composed of clusters of granular cells and Purkyne cells.

 

Inheritance: autosomal recessive

 

Mutation: c.152T>G in ATF2 gene

 

Sample: EDTA whole blood (1.0 ml) or 2 buccal brushes. For official purposes, the confirmation of the dog’s identity by Veterinarian is recommended.

 

The analysis is suitable for the following breeds: standard poodle
