Description:  Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a group of genetically heterogeneous inherited retinal disorders. PRA in dogs is equivalent to retinis pigmentosa (RP) in humans and is characterized by loss of vision due to progressive degeneration and cell death of the retinal photoreceptors. This degenerative disease leads to progressive loss of vision (at night and then in daylight) to complete blindness. Symptoms appear at the age of 5-7 years.

 

Inheritance: autosomal recessive

 

Mutation: c.1216T>C (p.*405Rext*25) in SAG (S-antigen) gene

 

Sample: EDTA whole blood (1.0 ml) or 2 buccal brushes
